In the Fall of 2013 I completed my special education student teaching placement. I student taught in a K-2nd grade learning support classroom for a total of 7 weeks. I taught Mathematics, Reading, and Writing. While teaching, I also implemented an individual behavior plan for a student.
"She knew her students well and promoted critical thinking with them. Amanda used positive strategies to keep her students motivated and provided corrective feedback to them respectfully. She developed and implemented a behavior management plan for one of her students that was very effective."

The students were involved in a Thanksgiving activity that I planned for reading. I read I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie by Alison Jackson. The students were involved throughout the activity by predicting, retelling, and by identifying literary elements. Before I read the book for a second time I gave the students different items that the old lady eats throughout the book. Each time I said a new item, the student with that item would feed it to the old lady! This helped the students with sequencing and listening skills! The students loved the activity!
